Dr. Lisa Micallef Grimaud

Dr. Lisa Micallef Grimaud graduated as a medical doctor in 2002. She became a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2006, and later specialized in Internal Medicine and in Infectious Diseases, also obtaining the Specialty Certificate in Infectious Diseases of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) and British Infections Association. She also studied at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland where she read for a Diploma in Tropical Medicine. Dr. Micallef Grimaud worked as a Resident Specialist at Mater Dei Hospital, during which time she was also a visiting lecturer at the University of Malta and an educational supervisor to Foundation Year doctors and Basic Specialist Trainees.

 

Besides having extensive experience in the treatment of general medical conditions, areas of interest related to her practice include:

– Persistent fever/fever of unknown origin

– Infections (including respiratory tract infections; infective diarrhoea; urinary tract infections;
joint and bone infections; skin/soft tissue infections eg cellulitis;
endocarditis/myopericarditis, fungal infections; wound infections and infections related to
prosthesis.

– HIV – screening and treatment; PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) and PEP (post-exposure
prophylaxis)

– Sexually transmitted infections

– Hepatitis

– Diseases transmitted from animals and insects;

– Tropical Diseases

– Travel medicine (Pre travel advice; travel vaccinations, malaria prophylaxis; fever/diarrhoea
in the returning traveller)
